Shawnee residents take pride in their parks, homes and schools.  Two excellent public school districts, Shawnee Mission and DeSoto, serve Shawnee children.  Parents also have the option of several private and parochial schools located in Shawnee. The Johnson County Museum is also located in Shawnee and houses unique exhibits, artifacts, and photographs of early life in Johnson County. Wonderscope Children's Museum, first opened in the Spring of 1992, features a number of interactive exhibits designed for children.
